A daughter of this couple we are friends with lost her first tooth recently. At 4 1/2, our son is going to be experiencing this soon, and we started talking about how much we got from the Tooth Fairy and how much the Tooth Fairy will give our son. She gave this girl $5 for her first tooth and $1 for the second. Her parents guess that she will probably give $1 for every tooth from now on.
I think I received $5 for my first four teeth, and $1 for each tooth after that.
My husband said that he was thinking the Tooth Fairy would leave $5 for the first and $1 for each additional tooth for our son. I thought she would leave more than that for the first tooth. I was thinking along the lines of $50 to $100 for the first tooth, $20 for the next three and $5 for all others. Hubby almost spit his drink when I suggested that the Tooth Fairy might be so generous.
This is a once in a lifetime experience, why not make it super special? How often is there an excuse to give a kid a fifty dollar bill or a one hundred dollar bill? Or am I totally insane to suggest that the Tooth Fairy trade one tooth for fifty bucks?

Holy crap! I got $1 for my first tooth and $.50 for the following.
I guess my parents are cheap bastards.
1We gave $20 and a letter from the toothfairy for the first teeth, and we've been giving around $5 since then. They sometimes only get $1 and a note from the tooth fairy if their room is messy.
I give $5 because it's hard to find anything for them to buy for only $1.

3i think i got $75 for the first tooth and $50 for the rest, but that's probably a little excessive. i'd go with maybe $20.

11I only got a dollar at most when I was at that age. According to her childless uncle the cost of living has gone up which made him open his mouth and tell my daughter she was getting $5 for her tooth. He of course, was forced to pay the other $4. Her other tooth is about to go and she thinks she is getting $5. I explained it was a first time thing. They really don't know the value of money at this age, $50 is excessive. If her uncle keeps opening his mouth, I will keep making him open his wallet.
